I got an Aloe plant from Toni that was her mum's. Was she givig it to me to look after while she is on vacation or for good? I am not sure but I am going to do my best to keep it alive!
Caring for Your Aloe Plant
Light Requirements
- Place the aloe plant in bright, indirect light.
- Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
- If the plant grows tall and spindly, it needs more light.
- A south or west-facing window is ideal.
Watering
- Water deeply but infrequently. Ensure water drains from the pot’s bottom.
- Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings.
- Signs of overwatering: yellowish, red, or soggy leaves.
- Signs of underwatering: shriveled or thin leaves.
- Water less in winter when there's less sunlight.
Soil and Potting
- Use well-draining soil, like cactus mix or a mix of sand and perlite.
- Always use a pot with drainage holes.
- Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its pot.
Temperature and Environment
- Keep the plant in temperatures between 55°F and 80°F (13°C - 27°C).
- Protect from frost by bringing it indoors during cold months.
- Ensure good airflow around the plant.
Fertilizing
- Fertilize sparingly in spring and summer with diluted liquid fertilizer.
- Feed once in spring and once in summer.
