2009 Recommended Reading List
Here is the recommended reading list compiled from a diverse group of friends, along with their comments where applicable.
The Winner:
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (4). I haven't read it because I saw the movie. I can't do both; they ruin it for each other.
1st Runners Up:
A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (3). I haven't read it.
Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith (3) - Set in Botswana, these books are being adapted into movies on HBO and are already airing in England. I haven't read it.
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett (3). I haven't read it.
The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory (3). I haven't read it.
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (3). I recommend reading it.
The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory (3). I haven't read it.
Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations… One School at a Time by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin (really good!) (3). I recommend reading it.
Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang - A favorite nonfiction book in my Book Club; it tells the story of three generations of women, from the grandmother with bound feet to her mother and daughter. (3). I haven't read it.
Second Runners Up:
A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle (2) - "It was REALLY good, and I’m not usually one to read that kind of stuff." I haven't read it.
Austenland by Shannon Hale (2). I recommend reading it.
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (2). I recommend reading it.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë (2). I recommend reading it.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel (2). I recommend reading it.
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (2). I haven't read it.
The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch (2). I haven't read it.
The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards (2). I recommend reading it.
The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory (2). I haven't read it.
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (2). I recommend reading it.
The Shack by William P. Young (2). I recommend reading it.
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (2). I recommend reading it.
